The morning before I left for Las Vegas, I drove around Carlsbad surveying the damage of the fires. I was amazed at how close the fire was to neighborhoods. Burned literally all the way up to homes. In one picture you’ll see part of a chainlink fence…that fence was in an apartment complex. The fence itself was burned, but the apartments were unscathed. The firefighters worked so hard to save as many homes as possible. Seriously…where would we be without them fighting for our homes?? In another picture you’ll see a school they saved. Everything is burned surrounding it, but the school is okay. Firefighters were still on hand when I was there, looking for hot spots, making sure it was truly out. I saw one of the homes that burned down. There were still firefighters there, and the owners with friends, sifting through the rubble. Out on the street were kids from the neighborhood selling cookies, lemonade and water, donating all proceeds to the fire department. It was nice to come home from Vegas without seeing fires blazing and smoke on the horizon.
