Have you guys heard of the store Madewell? I’ve seen them online for awhile on random blogs, but I’m the girl who cannot buy clothes online. They never fit right! Not even t-shirts. I gave that dream up years ago. So when I heard Madwell was opening a store at The Forum in Carlsbad, I was stoked! I texted a friend of mine “You have plans Wednesday night to attend a grand opening for a store you’ve never heard of!” All I had to do was say “open bar” and she was in.
We met for dinner, then walked over to The Wine Loft for a glass before the soiree. Remember when I talked about this wine bar in this post? I finally went in and tried it out. The wine was really good, the price good, the service quick but…weird. The bartender comes up to our table with his arms folded in front of him, asked if we’re ready. One of my friends orders a Cabernet. He was okay with that order. I ask about the French wine on the list. “Do you like French wine?” “I don’t know” “Well, this one is very…French.” I assumed so, since it was a French wine. Then I remember having a French wine at Prep Kitchen that tasted like dirt. In a good way! It was very earthy, sort of how mushrooms taste. So I tell him I want to order that one. “Okaaay” Hu. He didn’t like my order. My other friend ordered a Pinot Noir, and he said “Do you like Pinot’s? Because that one is really Pinot-ey.” He wouldn’t even let her order it until he gave her a taste! Come on buddy, let us order what we want to order! He never gave suggestions, either. If we did so bad ordering, why don’t you tell us what’s good? He gave us our wine anyway, and we all really liked what we ordered. Take that you weird bartender guy!
After that we strolled through the cobblestone walkway to Madewell. It was packed! They have a huge storefront, so everything was laid out real nice. Airy. My kind of shopping experience! They had a DJ up front, an open bar in the middle, and appetizers & champagne being passed around the store. I chose to wait in line for the Gin & Tonic with muddled blackberries and a swig of mint.
Meet Please & Thank You Liquor Bar, a mobile cocktail bar. Wow. How bad do I want to throw a party and hire these guys? It was too crowded to get a picture of the whole bar, and I got totally distracted and didn’t get a picture of the swanky drinks once they were crafted. But the whole setup was stellar. Swanky. Perfect. Hire these guys, you won’t regret it!
We wandered around the store with our drinks and touched all the soft fabrics. I got the softest shirt I’d ever felt, and drooled over many other things. I didn’t want to try anything on because let’s face it…I’d have to put my drink down. Who wants to do that? I was surprised at how reasonable their prices were for the quality of clothing. Their jewelry was great, too. I’ll be making regular stops at Madewell in the future, that’s for sure! They also have stores in Fashion Valley and UTC, so you can visit them there, too. Check them out!
